Argon is generally the shielding gas of choice when using the TIG process. TIG welding is generally suited to welding stainless steels and aluminum. When welding aluminum, Argon can be effectively used on materials upto 18mm thick.

If MIG welding with aluminum, Argon is the recommended shielding gas.
